The Big Island is often described as “The Golf Capital of Hawaii.” And a look at our HawaiiGolfDeals program certainly bolsters the claim. You’d be hard-pressed to find better golf and golf package deals anywhere else on the planet. HawaiiGolfDeals offers a veritable smorgasbord of outstanding layouts on The Big Island of Hawaii that will suit every golfer to a tee.
Not surprisingly, the Kohala Coast is the center of the universe when it comes to golf and lodging on the Hawaii’s Big Island. Resorts dominate the landscape. Well… not exactly. Lava is far more abundant than any signs of development. But this particular stretch of coast is the big kahuna when it comes to resorts.
KOHALA COAST RESORTS
MAUNA KEA RESORT
At the far end of the Kohala Coast action, about 25 miles north of Kona International Airport at Keohole (KOA), is the Mauna Kea Resort with two fine hotels — Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel — and two world-class golf courses with similar monikers. The classic Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed Mauna Kea Golf Course (renovated in 2009 by son Rees Jones) and the Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay-crafted, environmentally sensitive Hapuna Prince Golf Course are the finest two courses found at any Hawaii resort, bar none.
Rooms at the completely refurbished (completed Jan. 2014) HAPUNA BEACH PRINCE HOTEL are among the largest in the Aloha State and our “suite” deal on their spacious One-Bedroom Oceanfront Suites is the sweetest setup you’ll find in the Pacific Basin. The beach is stunning and the general ambiance is quite unique and private. We are particularly fond of Hapuna’s beachfront location and views from the bluff it resides upon. And with the Hapuna Prince Golf Course practice facilities just a mid-iron from the hotel entrance, the location is truly perfect.
The MAUNA KEA BEACH HOTEL is also a stunner, especially since its recent renovation. Our brand new Golf Vista Deluxe Junior Suites are just perfect and we have the best deal on the planet.
WAIKOLOA BEACH RESORT
Two fine golf layouts — the Waikoloa Beach Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and the Waikoloa Kings’ Golf Course, designed by the team of Tom Weiskopf & Jay Morrish — are the centerpiece of this sprawling resort. But its claim to fame in recent years has been the development of seven villa complexes with units that deliver some of the best value anywhere in Hawaii.
HawaiiGolfDeals is proud to offer an exclusive condo/villa collection on the Big Island that is second to none. We feature one-, two- and three-bedroom units at all seven properties, but we have extra special deals at Vista Waikoloa, Waikoloa Fairway Villas, Colony Villas, the stunning Hali’i Kai and the inspired luxury of Kolea.
The best shopping and dining options are also found at Waikoloa’s Queens Marketplace and Kings’ Shops, which feature six full service restaurants, a food court (Queens) and a sensational gourmet market (also Queens Marketplace).
When it comes to golf, the adjacent resorts are not the only game in town. HawaiiGolfDeals delivers the charming Waikoloa Village Golf Club just 10 minutes uphill from the entrance to the Waikoloa Resort and the inspiring Makalei Golf Club about 25-30 minutes to the south and above the Kona-Keohole Airport.
MAUNA LANI RESORT
HawaiiGolf Deals features some outstanding Mauna Lani villa options with special units at The Fairways, The Villages and the venerable Mauna Lani Point. A private beach club awaits all of our Mauna Lani guests.
This particular area has not fared well in recent years and we can no longer recommend it for our avid/core golf travelers. Golf in the Keauhou Bay area is no more due to the shuttering of the Kona Country Clubs’ two courses. In addition to being the hottest spot on the island (and in all of Hawaii), this general area is also plagued by two forms of congestion—traffic and vog. Most of the lodging options are also a bit tired, stale and not suited to golf travelers. It is always best to lodge on the Kohala Coast for sensational golf, lodging, dining and weather.
Of course, HawaiiGolfDeals can book you in any lodging property in the Aloha State — All you have to do is ask!
NOBODY BEATS HawaiiGolfDeals! PERIOD.
