When Arnold Palmer and the late Ed Seay set forth to design Oahu's only 27-hole layout on the far (west) side of Pearl Harbor, about 35 minutes from Waikiki, they had little to work with. But true to their calling, from the Ewa Plain's hardpan sugar cane fields and coral base were crafted three nines (A, B & C) that work in and around a substantial array of lakes, ponds and lagoons. With contouring and mounding adding character and definition, the Hawaii Prince Golf Club at Ewa Beach has matured into a first-rate golf facility. In fact, if this course was in Florida, it would be one of the best in Gatorland — although stunning long views of the Waianae Mountains belie that notion. "Cupped" greens and resort-like rough make good scoring possible. On most days, GOLFHAWAIICARD holders can play all three nines and a variety of well-conceived holes in less than seven hours at a tremendous value.
