The slightly upscale image that's been carefully crafted in travel annals IS what you'll find when you arrive on the second largest Hawaiian Island. Those who live there say: Maui no ka oi—Maui is the best. Those who visit will be transfixed by the beaches, a majestic volcano and divine cuisine.
The "Valley Isle" is actually two islands created by two volcanoes and connected by a fertile isthmus. West Maui, formed by the Pu’u Kukui volcano, is remarkably different from the South side. South Maui is set at the base of the world's largest dormant (not extinct) volcano, Haleakala ("House of the Sun"), which reaches over 10,000 feet to the sky.
Finding golf value is a tough chore on Maui, so we recommend you visit The Big Island if you intend to play a great deal of golf on fabulous tracks. Our Maui offerings, while slim, feature two respectable layouts, which offer good value for all comers. If you lodge on the South side (Kihei/Wailea/Makena), these courses are reasonably convenient as well.
Elleair
Maui Golf Club, located above Kihei, resides in the near perfect weather of Maui’s south side. By combining magnificent ocean views from the base of the Haleakala Volcano, with a fair, un-tricked up layout, Elleair delivers a delightful option to those not prepared for the sticker shock found at Maui’s golf resorts.
Pukalani Country Club delivers spectacular views and an 18-hole/19-green challenging design from the slopes of Haleakala at 1,100 feet of elevation. Maui’s highest course, while privately owned, can best be described as a high-end, municipal-type layout that is highly regarded by the local market. And, why not? This course has a lot to offer and at a price everyone can afford.
Waiehu Municipal GC is clearly one of the top-two municipal courses in the state (with Kauai's Wailua). Its stunning oceanfront location for Holes 5-8 and a back nine resplendent with gentle doglegs and ocean views makes it a worthwhile and enjoyable golf experience.
