The Island of Oahu is also the City and County of Honolulu. It is NOT the Big Island, but it is the big population center with about 875,000 of the state's 1.35 million residents. As such, it's Hawaii's political, business, tourism and cultural center, which probably explains its Hawaiian moniker — the Gathering Place.

Oahu is also home to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head Crater, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Bishop Museum, the big waves of the Banzai Pipeline, Hanauma Bay, Chinatown, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Aloha Tower Marketplace and a virtual rainbow of other visitor attractions and activities.

Over ninety-percent of the island’s lodging options are located in Waikiki, so with that in mind, be prepared to drive 25-35 minutes to our GOLF HAWAII CARD courses off the Pali Highway on the Windward side of the island (Luana Hills CC) and along Fort Weaver Road on the Ewa Plain on the Leeward side of Oahu (Hawaii Prince GC). Most other courses are farther away.

Both the quantity and quality of the golf courses on the third largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago are substantial. In fact, nearly half of the state’s golf courses are located on Oahu. From seaside links to courses tucked at the foot of steep mountains, Oahu could be a golfer's dream come true with variety as the focal point of this exciting golfscape. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Oahu's golf courses are priced $130-$175 or more to visitors, which are tough to justify in terms of conditioning, service and quality of design.

Have no fear, those HawaiiGolfDeals guys can still pull some value out of the old magic top hat.

Windward golf is found Luana Hills Country Club, a Perry Dye-stunner featuring a “Jungle Nine” and a “Valley Nine” on an extraordinary piece of property. Small Bentgrass greens and an assortment of Dye’s ingenious goodies make this a course to reckon with. It has the look and feel of a private club with all the accouterments to boot. As with all Dye layouts, always favor the forgiving side of each hole and stay clear of trouble on the opposite side.

Over on the South coast of Oahu, at the far side of Pearl Harbor, lies the Hawaii Prince Golf Club at Ewa Beach, which delivers the 27-hole golf course on Oahu. The Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay-design is clearly reminiscent of what one might find in Florida, with a plethora of lagoons and ponds on a relatively level piece of turf. But the maturation process, along with long views of the surrounding mountains, has certainly put this worthy course on Oahu's golf register.

For more unique Oahu golf experiences there are two worthy military layouts that the general public can generally access on most days via standing by or calling the same morning for a tee time. And both courses are eminently walkable with a generous arsenal of hand carts ($4).

Leilehua Golf Course is a real find in the rarified air of central Oahu just off the H-2 Freeway. The cooler temperatures and lush parkland setting is truly divine and Leilehua delivers a a classic day of golf with excellent practice facilities that include a lighted driving range, two large putting greens and a sizable chipping area.

Barbers Point Golf Course is another military layout with some creative holes and a nice feel. Located not far from Hawaii Prince GC between the burgeoning City of Kapolei and the Ewa Plain, Barber's Point presents a charmer that will challenge the mid- to high-handicappers and deliver low scores for the better player.
