Pearl Country Club
Pearl Country Club, which is not really a country club, but a privately owned daily fee course, is one of the most mature courses in Hawaii. Only about 25 minutes from Waikiki and, literally, perched over Pearl Harbor with views to match, the layout is always well conditioned and a joy to play. The front nine is a bit more interesting as it descends into the valley below and ascends back to the clubhouse at the 9th Green. The back nine delivers some extra length and sensational vistas. While there are only two ponds and light bunkering, Pearl is always challenging. It features substantial Bermuda greens with plenty of grain to navigate. Course knowledge or clever analysis really offers a distinct advantage on the putting surfaces. Palm trees pepper the layout and breezes of varying degree affect club selection. This is a venerable layout that should not be missed. Pearl also has some of the best food service in Hawaii with an extensive menu, indoor and outdoor dining, large portions and incredibly reasonable prices. The Pearl Open is held here every February.
