"The Gathering Place," as Oahu is also known, is home to Honolulu, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Cultural Center, Hanauma Bay, the "Banzai Pipeline" and 900,000 of Hawaii's 1.3 million residents. Ninety-five percent of Oahu's lodging is in or around Waikiki, so prepare to drive 25-55 minutes to our recommended golf courses. They are all worth the trip.
The PALI GOLF DESTINATION features Perry Dye's Luana Hills Country Club and Dick Nugent's Koolau Golf Club. Both compelling layouts are about 25 minutes from Waikiki across the Pali Highway at the base of the sheer cliffs of the Ko'olau Mountains. Just a couple of miles from each other, this “can't be missed” duo offers dramatic, jungle-like terrain with shot values galore. Course management and concentration are always at a premium on these two extremely invigorating layouts.
We also recommend Leilehua Golf Course and Makaha Valley Country Club, both of which are lovely to behold and have commendably reasonable rates for all visitors. No GOLF HAWAII CARD necessary!

There are really three types of accommodations that you will find in Waikiki—hotels, studios and condos.
The hotels are not really resorts like you find on the outer islands. The urban setting of Waikiki does not really allow for sprawling resorts, water features, acres of landscaping and gigantic pools. Among our favorite premium hotels in Waikiki are the dynamic Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa, Hawaii Prince Hotel, Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and the Waikiki Parc Hotel. If you are looking for resorts, the Kahala Hotel and JW Marriott Ihilani may suit the bill in the in the luxury category. In the moderate category, we love the Waikiki Resort Hotel, with its newly refurbished and spacious accommodations.
Our favorite in the studio category is the Outrigger Luana Waikiki. If you like spacious rooms with kitchenettes and lovely appointments, this is a terrific choice. It is also between the gateway to Waikiki and the start of the strip of Kalakaua Avenue that foreign shoppers and visitors so enjoy.
In the one-bedroom deluxe category, our condo roster is anchored by the ResortQuest Waikiki Sunset or ResortQuest Waikiki Banyan.
