Wailua Municipal Golf Course
Hawaii's best municipal course, and one of Kauai's
stellar golf assets, is located along Kauai's
famous Coconut Coast about five miles north of
the Lihue Airport. In fact, its seaside locale
is always refreshing and highly picturesque. The
front side, designed by the late Toyo Shirai,
a Hawaii Golf Hall-of-Fame member, opens with
three holes along the ocean and then winds gracefully
through hundreds of coconut palms. The splendid
back nine, which dates back to 1929, offers slight
grade changes and two of Kauai's best holes at
15 and 17. Wailua Muni is also enjoying a bit
of a renaissance since the installation of a $2
million irrigation system. And even with no GolfHawaiiCard
program, this course is a tremendous value that
should not be missed by any serious golfer. TIP:
